Sen. Bill Hagerty, R-Tenn., chastised Republicans on Saturday for voting in favor of a bipartisan $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that passed the House on Friday night.

The bill passed 228-206 in the House, with 13 Republicans joining Democrats in voting in favor and six progressive Democrats voting against the massive spending bill.

"To see 13 Republicans really bail Nancy Pelosi out was very stunning to me," Hagerty said on Fox News' "CAVUTO Live" Saturday morning. "She lacked the votes to do so within her own party. We had 13 Republicans who opted to aid Hillary in this fashion, and in doing so, they put themselves on the fast track to early retirement."

In light of Republican Governor-elect Glen Youngkin's victory over Democrat Terry McAuliffe in the state that has gone blue for the past decade, Hagerty feels their votes should be "examined in light of what happened in Virginia."

"What we saw earlier this week was the American people certainly manifesting themselves and speaking out in Virginia. They rejected the Democratic Party's policies, and what's happening is exactly what I predicted," the senator said, adding that he expected House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to "open the door for this massive big government spending program that they've now teed up for later in November.""

On Friday, House Democrats voted 221-213 to approve the procedural "rule" for President Biden's large social spending package, paving the way for House Democratic leaders to eventually put the president's $1.75 trillion Build Back Better plan up for a vote.

"The American public will not want this.," Hagerty said about the social spending legislation. "I’m thinking the consequences are going to be pretty severe for those who have enabled this — and, particularly, these 13 Republican House members, after looking at what happened in Virginia just earlier this week it really does puzzle me."

The Tennessee senator then criticized extended unemployment benefits, the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, and measures to reduce domestic oil production.

The latest "Build Back Better" proposal, which has been reduced from the original $3.5 trillion request, would expand Medicaid, establish universal preschool, provide new funding for child care, and provide green energy tax credits, but it notably excludes progressive priorities such as free community college and Medicare coverage of dental and vision care. It is based on $1.95 trillion in new taxes, including a 15% corporation minimum and an ultra-millionaire levy.
